Family Resource Center
Family Resource Centers are strengthened by community partnerships in their ability to provide vital programs, services and referrals to students and their families. These partnerships are critical in efforts on behalf of students to promote:
- early learning and successful transition to school;
- academic achievement and well-being; and
- graduation and transition into adult life.
Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services to serve the special needs of their student and family client populations. The goal of the FRC is to meet the needs of all children and their families served by the centers as a means to enhance student academic success.
Family Resource Centers serve children under school age and in elementary school and coordinate:
- preschool child care;
- after-school child day care;
- families in training;
- family literacy services; and,
- health services and referrals;
- academic support; and,
- basic Needs
The Family Resource Center also assists teachers and staff with activities such as coordinating volunteers, arranging field trip assistance, Family Fun Nights and other Parent Involvement Events, assemblies for students, and providing awards and incentives.
The Family Resource Center's purpose is to help academically at-risk students succeed in school by helping to minimize or eliminate barriers to learning.
Schools where at least 20 percent of the student population is eligible for free or reduced school meals may have an FRC.
Each Family Resource Center has an Advisory Council that encourages involvement from the community. Council must be comprised of at least one/third parent members and not more than one/third school district staff. The remainder of the Advisory Council membership shall include appropriate community representation. Parents must be representative of parent population served by the center and may not be employees of the district.
If you are interested in joining the Advisory Council, please contact the FRC at 859-292-5812 Ext. 31506.
