Mentoring

Research shows that spending time with a caring adult helps youth succeed.  Students who have mentors in Covington have fewer discipline referrals, get better grades, and go to school more regularly than they did before they had mentors. 

Whether you have 30 minutes or one hour a week to volunteer, you can make a difference at John G.!  

Share your time and talents with our youth by getting involved in one of the following mentoring programs:

Lunch Buddies
Spend 30 minutes each week with a student during lunchtime and listen to the child's stories....or tell a few of your own. For adults, 18 years and older.

After-School Buddy
Spend 30 - 60 minutes each week with a student after school (between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.) Be a positive role model for a student and help them make good choices to stay on the path to success. For adults, 18 years and older.

One-to-One Literacy Coach
Work with a student in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to improve reading skills.  Volunteers must complete a six-hour training before working with students. For adults, 21 years or older.
